Answer I have recently donated my car (I live in LA) to Habitat for Humanity because they give 75% - 80% of the gross sale price and because I believe their cause in Nobel (they help build houses for people in need). Another organization that is famous for it’s car donation site is Kidney Cars which help patients with kidney problems.
No matter which car donation organization you choose you must make sure that:
a. you make sure the charity behind the car donation site is one that you believe in its cause.
b. most of the GROSS revenues from the car donation goes to the charity at the end of the process.

Answer First of all, you can only deduct a charitable contribution if you itemize, so if you don’t itemize, there’s no tax benefit to you from the donation.

Charities usually sell donated cars at auction, and they’ll give you a receipt for the car showing how much it sold for – that’s the amount you can deduct. Be aware that cars being auctioned usually sell below what would be fair market value.

The tax benefit from the deduction is at most the amount of the deduction times your tax bracket. So if they sold the car for $3000, and your tax bracket is 15%, your tax savings would at most be $450.

This is for federal taxes, so the rules are the same in every state of the US.

The best place, would to get on Craigslist, and look for a post that's a single mom, or dad, etc....and just give them the car.

And if you really cared about the charity you're doing, you wouldn't ever mention tax return. And you wouldn't want one.

Be honest. Either you're doing a good deed, or you're just trying to get something out of it. But don't sugar coat it.
